ZIPPO Yoshitaka Amano Raijin Lighter (Discontinued Archive Model)

The Raijin (Thunder God) model was created from artwork exhibited in Yoshitaka Amano’s acclaimed AURUM exhibition. Combining traditional Japanese mythology with Amano’s distinctive fantasy aesthetic, the design transformed the legendary Thunder God into a luxurious collectible ZIPPO lighter.

The artwork was reproduced using a combination of raised metal detailing, precision etching, black-filled decorative elements, and advanced inkjet printing. A special 23K gold-plated finish was applied to recreate the appearance and texture of traditional gold leaf, resulting in a richly layered presentation inspired by Japanese decorative arts.

The entire composition was designed to evoke the atmosphere of a work displayed on a gold folding screen, with gold-plated barrel finishing extending across the lighter’s surfaces and enhancing the artwork’s visual depth.

Originally released as a companion piece to the Fujin (Wind God) model, the two lighters formed a complete artwork when displayed together.

About the Artwork

Raijin, the Thunder God, is one of the most recognizable deities in Japanese mythology. Traditionally depicted as a powerful supernatural being associated with storms and thunder, Raijin has appeared in Japanese painting, sculpture, and decorative arts for centuries.

In Yoshitaka Amano’s interpretation, the deity is transformed through his signature visual style, blending mythology, elegance, fantasy, and contemporary artistic expression.

About the AURUM Exhibition

The design originated from Amano’s AURUM exhibition, a body of work exploring themes of gold, light, mythology, and artistic transformation.

The extensive use of gold-plated surfaces and gold leaf-inspired textures reflects the exhibition’s visual language while highlighting the craftsmanship involved in translating fine art into a functional collectible object.
